As we close the National Homeownership Month of June, I can’t help but feel tremendously satisfied and happy with our achievements. We’ve closed on many deals and see many more to come.

National Homeownership Week began in 1995, with President Bill Clinton’s administration to increase homeownership across the nation. In 2002, President George W. Bush made it into an entire month.

This month is not just about the American Dream of homeownership. It’s also a time to recognize those who help individuals and families to achieve these goals.

During these days we celebrate not only the Department of Housing and Urban Development and Federal Housing Administration but also our fellow realtors, financial and housing counselors, everyone who works on assistance programs, and basically all the people who make it possible for first-time homebuyers to make their dream come true.

You can actually read about the proclamation of Homeownership Month on the White House website and check out the President’s special communications on the matter this year here.

Florida has proven this month that it is not just still a desirable place to live and purchase but that real estate is definitely doing better here than in many other places. Some of the reasons are the lower income taxes and property taxes, good weather, no estate taxes, and amazing lifestyle and outdoor space such as beaches and homes with yards. Florida cities are often among the best cities to buy real estate because of the quality of lifestyle.

Actually, regardless of the situation, housing prices aren’t expected to drop significantly during the COVID-19 pandemic. In some areas, they have even gone up. So, even though the housing market has gone down in some other states, Florida still has a statewide shortage that allows to maintain prices in many locations. Actually, we were even able to get over-ask-price on some properties this month.

Actually, while the latest housing data from Florida Realtors reported lower levels of closed sales and new listings in May compared to a year ago, median sales price increased and new pending sales for single-family existing homes rose 2.3% compared to a year ago. This is actually a positive sign for the housing sector, according to Florida Realtors Chief Economist Dr. Brad O’Connor. And all of this reflected on June and what’s to come.

Uncertainty is still part of what we’re going through and though we can’t ensure what will happen, we know that this is still a great business to be in. More so with people looking to own their home so they can decide how to live and feel more protected.

If you are thinking of joining a strong real estate team, contact us. I’m looking for new realtors in Central Florida to join my team.
